This year was especially helpful because I learned about another certification called the Certified Autism Travel Professional (CATP). The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards put out a course for Travel Professionals in order to better serve the autistic community.

This training brough to the forefront a need for travel professionals who also have knowledge of special needs. The course reinforced what I already knew, that every person with a disability is different with a different set of needs. Planning trips for special needs isn't really that different than customizing any vacation! Ask questions, learn about their personalities and particularities and then create an amazing itinerary based on the information! It definitely helps to have a knowledge base in the field and experience working with this population. I love working together to create family vacations that everyone can enjoy!
