When I was getting my masters in speech pathology at NYU, most of my classmates wanted to work with kids in the schools, but I wanted to be in the hospitals with the seniors. (I say 'seniors' with the utmost respect, I'm catching up!) I had a wonderful year career specializing in swallowing disorders in acute care, sub-acute care and assisted living facilities.
In the winter of 2011, I contracted the flu and suffered from some health complications. As a result, I no longer wanted to be in a healthcare setting. While I was sick, I planned the most amazing vacation for my family, so I decided to help others do the same and founded Sunlit Travel. I began my travel career by specializing in honeymoons. It wasn't until 2019 when I started volunteering at the Senior Source in Hackensack, NJ that I realized I had strayed from my love - a more 'mature' audience! As soon as I stepped foot into the Senior Source, I felt like I was home!
Of course, covid-19 came soon after that and travel ceased. I found joy in keeping up with my new friends from Senior Source; hosting chats on zoom, holding weekly Bingo, and staying in touch with my Mah Jongg buddies!
Travel will resume and when it does, I will be here for those wishing to finally take that bucket list trip or simply enjoy another vacation!
