![]() My husband just told me about a colleague who is fighting for his life in the ICU. He hasn't missed a day of work in the past 15 years. Literally. Obviously genetics and lifestyle play a part but can you imagine not taking a vacation day for 15 years? While it might be assumed that Americans happily take time off, the reality – according to Glassdoor's Q1 2014 Employment Confidence Survey – is that the average U.S. employee only takes half of his or her eligible vacation time. They go on to say that 61% of U.S. workers admit to working while on vacation and this can negate the good effects of vacation. I hope my husbands colleague makes a full recovery and let it be a lesson to the rest of us... life is short, let's do the things that make us happy. Spend time with loved ones, buy that new pair of shoes, eat the cake and go on a vacation, it can literally save your life.
